THURSDAY: Mars 500

I read an article in the paper today about the Mars 500 experiment.

Basically six men will spend at least 520 days in a sealed, five-chamber metal unit in what will be a simulation of a journey to Mars. Their days will be strictly divided into eight hours sleep, eight hours work and eight hours leisure. The only contact with the outside world they will have is with mission controllers and loved ones. Communication will be made with a 20 minute delay to simulate deep space conditions.

None of the six men have been chosen but there are plenty of eager candidates, which is quite impressive. I doubt most of us would sign up for something like this. Space travel is a very exciting prospect and the European Space Agency says that preparing humans for flights over a year and half remains a big issue.

i find this to be very sexist. what happens if a woman wants to participate? and also, 5 euros on 1 asian? this sausage fest needs some more egg yolk.
