This is a photo of the Arrow Boys, a Sudanese militia group who defend their village against bandits. They use a variety of weapons including firearms, arrow, poisoned darts and anything else they can make or find in the forests.
These bandits are real bastards. They belong to a group known as the Lord's Resistance Army, who once had a purpose but now just murder and steal for survival. One of the local Arrow Boy chiefs Samuel Manase says, "They kill in different ways. Sometimes people are shot dead, other times men are surrounded by a circle of LRA members, beaten to death with clubs. Earlier, I saw men here being chopped up with pangas [machetes]."
While its tragic they have to resort to such measures, these Arrow Boys are amazingly badass. I mean sure, they have armed ten year old boys on patrol but seriously, this story would make a fucking good movie.
